Abaqus Version 6.5 System Requirements

View system requirements and tested configurations for Abaqus Version 6.5.

To determine the operating system level, host ID, compiler levels (if installed), and any additional requirements, run the command abaqus info=system, where abaqus is the command for the execution procedure for the version you are running.

Compilers

No additional compilers or libraries are required to run Abaqus. For Version 6.5, a FORTRAN compiler is required to compile and link user subroutines for Abaqus. If you prefer to write user subroutines in languages other than FORTRAN, you must have the FORTRAN compiler specified, a compiler for the language used, and the knowledge of how to call routines in that language from FORTRAN. Abaqus, Inc cannot guarantee compatibility of Abaqus with user subroutines written in programming languages other than FORTRAN.

User-written postprocessing programs created with Abaqus/Make in Version 6.5 should be compiled using the compiler for the program language and linked using a C++ compiler. Therefore, both a FORTRAN and C++ compiler are required for user-written FORTRAN programs. User-written programs, compiled and linked in a previous version of Abaqus (before Version 6.2) with Abaqus/Make and processing only the results (.fil) file, can still be used with a Version 6.5 results file without any change. In these instances no C++ compiler is required. The FORTRAN and C++ compilers listed here are those that Abaqus, Inc. expects to use to test Version 6.5-1.

Additional libraries and/or patches required to run Abaqus are listed also. In most cases, the required libraries are included with Abaqus; otherwise, they should be obtained by contacting your hardware vendor. Required patches must be installed by the user. Executable versions of Python and Perl will be included with and used by Abaqus; Python includes standard and customized modules.

MPI is required for the MPI-based parallel implementation of Abaqus/Explicit and Abaqus/Standard. MPI is supported for shared memory processing and distributed memory processing on all indicated platforms for Version 6.5.

Documentation

Abaqus Version 6.5 supports online documentation in HTML format that can be viewed through a web browser. See platform requirements below for the required web browser. Abaqus HTML-based documentation can be served to all supported platforms from a web server installed on only one computer on a network. HTML-based Documentation need not be installed on each system on which Abaqus runs. In addition, a CD-ROM containing PDF documentation for viewing from the CD-ROM using an appropriate PDF browser is provided. Versions of the web browsers or PDF readers later than those listed below are expected to offer acceptable performance.
