The Message Passing Interface (MPI)-based parallel processing mode of Abaqus can
be used for parallel execution on multiple processors of a single machine
(shared memory parallel or SMP) or on multiple machines (distributed memory
parallel or DMP). This parallel processing mode is the default where it
is available. Appropriate versions of MPI need to be installed
in order to make use of this parallel processing mode in Abaqus.
The runtime kit will enable running Abaqus with MPICH/MPI without a source build being required. However, with this approach it will
not be possible to build other programs with MPICH. Build MPICH
from source to perform a full installation in such cases.
