Fluid sloshing in a flexible container

Challenge

This animation of a fluid sloshing inside a flexible container illustrates the fluid-structure interface properties for Abaqus-AcuSolve. In this example the fluid mesh is allowed to slide against a deforming structural mesh. Combined visualization of both the fluid and structural domain was done using Abaqus CAE.

Solution

During the simulation the neighborhood search is continuously performed mapping the closest fluid elements to the structural elements. The interface properties allow the fluid mesh to be either tied to the structural mesh or to allow slip along the structural mesh. Furthermore, the fluid velocity can be either tied to the structural mesh velocity or it can be free in the tangential directions and tied in the normal direction to the structural mesh velocity.

Benefit

This capability allows a wider range of fluid-structure problems to be solved in which the fluid mesh can conform to the structural mesh during the simulation.
