"We support SIMULIA and their vision for offering comprehensive multiphysics solutions. Combined with our own expert system and the existing MpCCI-enabled fluid structure interaction coupling solution of our STAR-CD product with Abaqus, this new direct coupling will offer mutual customers the utmost flexibility in performing multiphysics analyses."

Coupled Physics
One way to get closer to realistic behavior in simulation is to include more than one physical aspect in a coupled approach—where one aspect of physics (for example, structural response) affects and is affected by another (for example, fluid flow).
Simulations which incorporate more than one type of physics problem are considered to be multiphysics simulations, and the individual physics involved are said to be coupled.
Multiphysics simulation can be loosely coupled or tightly coupled, depending on how intimately one aspect affects the other as the solution progresses.
Abaqus Multiphysics provides significant capabilities to enable multiphysics problems to be solved directly by an Abaqus FEA user. This capability has been extended using Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian technology for fluid-structure interaction directly in Abaqus. Additionally, SIMULIA is providing open solutions that enable the direct and indirect coupling of third-party or customer-developed simulation applications with Abaqus FEA.
