IBM
Company Overview:
IBM is the world's largest information technology company, with more than 80 years of leadership in helping businesses innovate. IBM creates, develops, and manufactures information technologies, including customer systems, software, networking systems, storage devices and microelectronics.
Solutions:
As a technology leader, IBM provides SIMULIA customers with a wide variety of high-performance systems for running Abaqus simulations and a worldwide staff to respond to technical questions. IBM has demonstrated significant growth in the automotive and aerospace markets in the past few years, largely based on the performance of the POWER4 and POWER5 processors and the experienced technical team available to support customers.
IBM eServer pSeries based on the POWER5 processor and running the AIX operating system, are IBM's flagship products for Abaqus FEA users.
Through the IBM xSeries and IBM IntelliStation brands, Abaqus FEA users can also purchase low-cost IBM workstations and servers based on Intel processors.
IBM has a long-standing and very strong working relationship with SIMULIA. IBM has dedicated resources that work with SIMULIA’s development staff to ensure that Abaqus FEA products are delivered on a timely basis on IBM platforms and are fully optimized for those systems. The following is a sample of the significant joint projects between SIMULIA and IBM:
- 1986: Vectorization for the IBM 3090 Vector Facility
- 1987: SMP parallelization for the IBM 3090 Vector Facility
- 1990: Tuning for the IBM RS/6000 superscalar architecture
- 1995: MPI parallelization of wavefront solver for the IBM SP
- 1998/9: Research on MPI parallelization of a sparse solver for the IBM SP
- 1998: POWER3 tuning and SMP parallelization of Abaqus Version 5.8
- 1999/2000: Optimization of a parallel threaded blocked solver for POWER3 SMP for Abaqus Version 6
- 2000: Development of a 64-bit addressing Abaqus Version for large models
- 2000/2: I/O optimization study
- 2001/2: Optimization for POWER4.
