Abaqus to Compute Mechanical Linear Vibrational Modes for This Thin-Shell Bell

In our computer graphics group at Carnegie Mellon University, we used the Abaqus FEA product suite to compute mechanical linear vibrational modes for this thin-shell bell. Abaqus was very robust and worked great, and this allowed us to spend more time on other parts of the project. We used these vibrational modes, together with our novel research contributions in air acoustics, to create a real-time interactive bell sound simulation, from first principles of mechanics and air acoustics. The research was published in the papers program of SIGGRAPH 2006.
