Loading Effects on Compacted Powder

A Multi Particle Finite Element Model (MPFEM) was developed in Abaqus/Explicit. Each particle is descritized into a finite element mesh. The semi-cohesive behavior at the contact interface was modeled by applying a layer of surface material that can degrade under tensile and shear stress condition. The loading and unloading of several hundred particles was simulated and the results show that the unloading procedure has a large effect on the final strength of the compacted powder.
